When I first started getting hooked on the photography buzz
I used to have a scrap book where I collected images that caught
my eye. It's a great way to get ideas, for poses, cropping,
lighting and all of the other things that go into making a great
photo.
I collected magazine clips, postcards, greeting cards... anything
that made me think.. I wish I could take pictures like that.
Sometimes its also a good idea to collect ones you don't like
so you don't make the same mistakes that you find displeasing;
or you see a picture that has elements you like and can mix
and match with other images, then figure out how you can bring
them all together in one image.
Travel magazines are great to give you ideas on places to visit
if landscape and scenic photos are what get your creative juices
flowing..
Your scrapbook is great for giving you wardrobe and make-up
ideas if portraits are more your thing. Thrift shops are a great
source for cheap wardrobe items if you fancy yourself as a glamour
or portrait photographer; grab some friends and play dress up,
don't be afraid to have fun with your camera.
If your friends are too shy.. invest in a tripod if your camera
has a self timer .. just be prepared to run around and have
a few badly timed embarrassing shots .. but armed with your
scrapbook and a bunch of ideas.. practice makes perfect.
